Write down what the desired season means

Before choosing between seasonal and annual greenhouse, the producer must write down his own production calendar. When would the installation start, when would the harvest take place, and what time would the area remain empty? Instead of concepts, this calendar gives you a useful start. A spring start facility can raise other questions than a winter production plant.

The production period is not a wish of its own. It is linked to the selected plant, the market idea, the work of the treatment team and the technology conditions of the plant. The technical concept of the building should therefore indicate the periods in which we are preparing to operate. Thus, the designer and investor understand the same thing during the extension of the season, and subsequent offers do not have different targets.

Select the cover and climate integrity

The covered space may create a more favourable environment compared to the outdoor situation, but the cover alone does not justify the sustainability of all the desired internal conditions. Questions related to winter and summer use should be examined separately. What weather situation can limit production? What is the climate target for the plant? The necessary systems should be derived from these questions, not from a pre-selected package.

The investor can benefit from two mutually agreed concepts: one is preparing for a smaller production period and the other is also seeking to address additional weather conditions. The difference shall be described with functions. This makes it clear which equipment or infrastructure will be included because of the different objectives and which task remains a cultivation or operation decision.

The utility is connected to the calendar

Different periods of the year may give rise to different energy, water and work organisation issues. Therefore, when examining public works, it is necessary to identify not only the annual imaginary use but also the critical operating situation. The determination of actual demand is a technical task. The investor can prepare to give the production target and collect the connection data available.

It is also not appropriate to consider the non-use period as an empty space in the plan. It may give you the opportunity to clean, check, install or change technology. If the later operation is almost continuous, they will need a different organisation. Access and time window for maintenance are part of the concept as well as the number of places of production or the selection of cover.

Do not treat the enlargement target as current capacity

It is a common idea that the site will start with easier operation and then switch to annual production. This is a planned direction, but the location and connections of later systems are worth reconsidering at the first rate. Future expansion does not mean that the initial installation already knows the same thing. In the offer and delivery, the two conditions remain separate.

In the final election, the investor should record which production period the technical decision was made, what limits remained and which subsequent development was prepared. If the plant or market calendar changes, this description shall be re-examined. The objective is a greenhouse which is clearly linked to the operating period undertaken and does not lead to a production guarantee from the general advantages of the covered space.

Questions to reconcile the project

  • What period is the production calendar for?
  • What climate should the concept address?
  • Which subsequent development is only prepared?
